No wonder Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and her even less talented wannabe counterparts are making money off of this poor excuse for a literary genre–which would be better described as “chick lit porn”. At least call it for what it is, rather than try and whore it up as anything but trashy romance “novels” under the guise of legitimate fantasy or horror fiction. It’s a sad commentary that this soulless manufactured tripe is what defines contemporary women’s literature in some circles. I find it hard to believe that women are unable to appreciate literature that doesn’t pander to their basic biological urges–much in the same way that men can appreciate literature and pornography separately. I don’t claim to understand women on any level–and even less so the more I get to know them. But I do have several friends who are intelligent, successful career women that don’t wear their accomplishments as a badge for the plight of female equality, and they regard books like the Twilight series with disdain. If I were a woman, I would be offended to have Stephenie Meyer and her ilk speak for me and my gender through the printed page. I know that there has to be more to the experience of being a woman than this drivel.
