Even though I’m not a big fan of the term “bucket list” (I think it’s become cliche), here are my recommendations for yours–in no particular order:
- Go sightseeing around a big city
- Visit an art museum (with an open mind, of course)
- Find an unobstructed view of the horizon and watch both a sunrise and a sunset
- Stand on a beach overlooking an ocean (or other large body of water)
- Initiate a spontaneous romantic kiss in the rain
- Fly a kite
- Write a book (the subject matter isn’t important–write your memoirs, if you want)
- Attend a musical concert (preferably outdoors)
- Call in sick on a rainy or snowy day and read a good book in bed
- Make love in front of a fire in a fireplace
- Attend a college sporting event (and go tailgating if it’s a football game)
- Paint a picture (and it doesn’t matter what it looks like–it’s your creation)
- Read a book outdoors on a sunny day (in a hammock is ideal)
- Care for a pet
- Ride a rollercoaster
- Go boating
- Cook a meal for your friends or loved ones
- Play hooky from work or school with a friend or significant other
- Throw a surprise party for someone
- Build a snowman
- Find a spot out in the country and lie on your back and watch the stars come out on a summer evening
- Stay up all night talking with a friend or loved one
- Keep a journal
- Donate your time to a worthy cause
- Read a book of poetry
- Make love outdoors (preferably in a private or secluded location)
- Plant something
- Try ice or roller skating
- Roast marshmallows
- Walk a nature trail in autumn
- Feed the ducks at a pond
- Bake something for someone
- Read to a young child
- Find an excuse to speak in public
- Make a wish on a star or at a wishing well
- Leave the TV and computer off for an entire day
- Attend a community theater or high school play
- Spend a rainy afternoon browsing at a used book store
- Take a road trip with a friend
- Attend a religious service at a house of worship
- Surrender yourself to your first love unconditionally without any reservations about possible regrets
