I was out with my dogs tonight for their last bathroom break for the night, the cogs and wheels of my mind relentlessly spinning as they often do–not necessarily about anything in particular–when I noticed a breathtaking crescent moon to the west, perched over my garage roof. Bathed in an almost ethereal amber glow, the prongs of the crescent appeared to almost touch.
Not a particularly noteworthy sight, yet it still gave me pause. A reminder that in spite of whatever turbulent times we earthbound souls may be experiencing, the heavens above are relative constants. Something to count on. Something to remind us that for as easily as we can become consumed by the trials and tribulations of our all-too-brief mortal lives, the universe remains stubbornly oblivious, and the nightly sprawl of stars persevere.
And so can we.
