When boys reach the age of twelve, their parents should be issued one toilet plunger for every bathroom in the house.
I don’t know if it’s a consequence of the sheer volume of food teenage boys ingest, or the preferred flushing protocol gets lost in translation from father to teenaged son, but I find myself unclogging a toilet about once a day in my house–sometimes more. Whereas I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve clogged my own toilets in the eleven years I’ve occupied my residence–so I can’t blame the plumbing.
And I’m not alone–I’ve heard similar accounts from other parents of teenaged boys. Though this nugget of wisdom isn’t something experienced parents typically pass along.
The total cost of purchasing all those plungers would probably go unnoticed in the proposed multi-trillion dollar budget that will never be balanced again in my lifetime.
There’s a joke in here somewhere about clogged toilets and teenaged boys being metaphorically full of shit… But I’m spending too much of my time unclogging toilets to figure out what that joke might be.
